Taylor's latest book, published by Write Bloody Books, is available in hard cover and paperback. United States Poet Laureate Billy Collins says, "Not since Taylor Mali, has there been a poet of the likes of Taylor Mali—which is to say he is a man of unique properties. He is tagged as a performance poet, but his performances, rather than being frontal assaults, are leavened by charm and wit and could survive happily on the page.” Clicking the link below will take you to the Write Bloody store.

With young poets, we forgive their early missteps. With old poets, we forgive their faltering voices. “Icarus Airlines” is proof of a world class performance poet at the pinnacle of his powers. Simply the best Taylor Mali CD so far. (Steve Marsh, Executive Director of Poetry Slam Inc.)
One of the most entertaining, and thought-provoking spoken word albums I've heard in the 21st century. “Icarus Airlines” totally flies. (Mighty Mike McGee, World Poetry Slam Champion)
Published in July of 2002 from Hanover Press, What Learning leaves has text versions of many of the poems that appear on Taylor Mali's first two CDs. Price $12 (plus shipping).

This was my first recording, made in 1995. It was originally released as a cassette tape, and later re-released as a cd. Half of it is live from a performance I did in Key West, and the other half was recorded in a garage on Cape Cod. Fresh out of graduate school in Kansas, I certainly show a broader range (more lyrical, more lascivious) than in my more recent work. Click the title for a list of poems included. Cost for all CDs is $15.
This DVD gathers together some of the biggest names in contemporary poetry and spoken word including Taylor Mali, Roger Bonair-Agard, Celena Glenn, Beau Sia, John S. Hall, Ishle Yi Park, Cristin O’Keefe Aptowicz, Rachel & George McKibbens, and Shappy. In addition to 15 live performances shot beautifully by filmmaker Kristen Loeb, the DVD also contains an in-depth interview called “Bookends” in which Mali talks candidly about poetry, spoken word, and the art of teaching. All after-tax profits from the sale of this DVD are donated to educational charities. Cost is $19.99.
I recorded this cd at the William Morris Agency's in-house audition studio during the SAG voiceover strike of 2000. The quality of the recording is pristine, but those who have heard me live say that the performance of the poems is too relaxed. Seven of the 13 tracks are teacher-related. Click the title for a list of poems included. Cost for all CDs is $15.

I had a whale of a time narrating this exciting and gruesome tale by Nathaniel Philbrick about the true story of the Essex, the only commercial whaler ever to be sunk by a whale. Herman Melville based much of Moby Dick on the story of the Essex. Publisher’s Weekly says, “Mali performs a keen reading that matches the gripping tone of Philbrick's work [making] sure that listeners ride the waves of exhilaration, fear, tragedy and joyous relief.”
I won a Golden Earphones Award from Audiophile Magazine for my narration of this account of the fire that consumed much of Chicago in 1871 byJim Murphy. “Slam poet Mali conveys the terror, rage and hope reborn experienced by the stunned Chicagoans, making this Audio Bookshelf production one that will burn in memory long after the recording ends.”
In narrating this great book by Jennifer Armstrong about Sir Ernest Shackleton's ill-fated expedition to the South Pole, I had to learn how to imitate five distinctly different accents for various members of the crew: English, Irish, Scottish, Australian, and New Zealand.
Edited by Neil Philip, this collection of fairy tales by American authors was the first book I ever narrated on tape. I still like many of the stories, especially the ones by L. Frank Baum, Nathaniel Hawthorne, and Carl Sandburg.
Author Jim Murphy won several awards with this historical account of the great blizzard of 1888, “the storm that changed the world.” I learned a lot about New York while narrating it.
This wonderful book by Michael Capuzzo chronicles the behavior of a rogue great white shark which terrorized the New Jersey shore in 1916. The movie Jaws was actually based on this series of attacks. It’s a gruesome story, and I had a lot of fun narrating it.
Sid Fleischman is a Newbery Award winning writer, and this biography of Houdini won the School Library Journal Best Book of 2006 award. I actually began to identify with the great escape artist while narrating this book. It’s a wonderful read.
